**********************************************************************************

We have set this immersive, inclusive experience in the turbulent world of 1215, where rebellion simmers, alliances fracture, and the future of the realm hangs in the balance. Magna Carta: Robin & John is an immersive Nordic-style LARP that intertwines myth, legend, romance, and history, centered on the political upheaval that pushed England to the brink of transformation.

Players embody roles drawn from historical figures and legendary archetypes: Barons pressing their demands, church leaders weighing excommunication, outlaws stirring unrest, and a king fighting to maintain his crown. As factions negotiate, betray, and unite, participants collaboratively decide whether peace, revolt, or an unsteady compromise, perhaps even the signing of the Magna Carta, will shape the world they inhabit.

Designed for emotional depth, collective creativity, and character-driven intrigue, this LARP blends medieval aesthetics with modern LARPing principles: consent-based play, transparent mechanics, standard safety protocols, and an emphasis on narrative exploration and collaborative storytelling over “winning”. Although most of the events in our LARP really happened, we have altered timelines and characters to create more interesting gameplay. This is not a living history aspiring LARP!

We have included several ways to manage your experience. On Friday we will introduce you to the larp through a series of brief workshops, one of which will provide a system of safety protocols in case things get too emotional. During the game, you will have access to a quiet space away from the action, where you can separate yourself from your character for a bit, and have a snack. After the larp, on Sunday, we will host a “debrief” workshop to help you emerge from your character and move back into 2026. We want this larp to be moving and meaningful, but we also want it to be FUN and for you to feel safe and supported.

What’s Next

After you purchase your ticket, you will receive a series of emails with questionnaires: one for practical details like lodging and food requirements, one for player flagging and safety, and one for your character preferences – this will help us to determine which of the above themes you’d like to explore. We’ll also include more practical information, like transportation options and costuming suggestions, along with an invite to our Discord server so that you can connect with other players and keep in touch with us.

After we crunch the numbers, you will receive your roommate assignments and have a chance to respond if you’d like to change. You’ll also receive a preliminary list of 3 characters, depending on your character survey answers. We’ll ask you to send back your first, second, and third choices for characters. We’ll make every attempt to match people with the characters that they want.

Each character sheet will come with a full description of their situation, goals that they may have for the game, and specific relationships with other characters, along with costuming suggestions particular to the character. Depending on availability, you will have a chance to change your character for a limited time.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Nordic LARP? – Nordic LARP is a style of live-action role-playing (LARP) from the Nordic countries emphasizing collaborative storytelling, intense emotional experiences, and artistic expression, often tackling complex themes like identity, politics, and social issues through immersive, character-focused play rather than competitive games with strict rules or combat. It’s more like improvised theater or a shared, introspective journey than a typical game, with players exploring their characters deeply, even experiencing “bleed” where emotions carry over after the event from small, intimate gatherings to large-scale productions. (from Cascadia Rising)

2. I don’t know anything about the Middle Ages. Can I still play?   A: YES! You will receive all of the information that you need to have a fantastic adventure. You don’t need to be a scholar or even vaguely aware of the timeline. We’ll make sure that you don’t drown in historical details.

3. I’m not a costumer. How can I come up with a costume?   A: If you’re not into creating a costume, we are fine if you buy it off the internet. We don’t even care if you dropped $25 on a polyester costume from Temu. We will give you guidelines for basic costuming that are straight-forward and simple to follow. If you want to go all-out and handsew your costume, that’s wonderful too – but no one will judge you on your seams, we promise! All we ask is that you follow the guidelines. Please don’t come in Henry VIII 16th century garb or RenFaire finest. No elf ears.

4. What if I hate the 3 character choices I’ve been given?   A: You will have a chance to switch it up with available characters. The closer we get to game time, the fewer characters will be available, so please contact us ASAP if you want to change.

5. If I need to cancel, will I get a refund?   A: The $200 deposit is non-refundable. This is because we need to ensure that we meet our contractual obligations with the venue, the hotel, insurance, transportation, etc. We will be able to refund monthly payments beyond the refund, but please keep in mind that we will need to sell your ticket to someone else, so any refunds may take several months. If WE need to cancel for any reason, you will of course receive a full refund.
