Inclusive History
Experience custom historical costuming adventures with a community that values inclusion, fairness, and connection.
Who am I? I am Gigi, a sociologist and public historian who promotes inclusive costuming by leading journeys abroad and hosting events in the United States.
Our international trips feature elegant, boutique experiences centered on historical dress in the United Kingdom, the Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, and Lombardy. If you are not a typical tour group traveler, neither am I. I want to show you the places I discovered over fifteen years of archival research and solo travel to historical sites both on and off the beaten path. I have done the foundational work so that all you have to do is book your plane ticket, pack, and arrive.
I have fallen slowly and completely in love with Italy, especially the regions of the Veneto and Emilia-Romagna. I invite you to experience the sweetness of doing nothing while we explore the deep history of these landscapes together. Our inclusive journeys allow you to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for belonging and diversity.

HOW IT WORKS
I work closely with private groups of three or more guests. Please contact me via email at costumersofcolor@gmail.com to let me know when you want to travel and which trip ideas interest you the most. I will respond to set up a time to discuss joining a trip currently in the planning process or beginning the work of crafting your own small group journey. Together, we will explore rich and diverse cultures through curated travel experiences, local dining, heritage site visits, and even costuming events.
Why Travel With Gigi?
Gigi Coulson is a sociologist and public historian who has conducted sustained archival research in Italy for the last fifteen years. She has taught students in the United States about historical fashion, the lives of women, and period beauty practices. Her expertise includes a published translation of the 15th-century cosmetic and medicinal recipes of Caterina Sforza, and she has presented original research on Lombard women at the International Congress on Medieval Studies. Gigi leads small, private journeys to the cities she has grown to love to bring the stories of history to life through rigorous research and real, lived experience.
