COSTUMERS OF COLOR
Building community, celebrating truth, and making history visible.

What We Do
Costumers of Color, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that awards scholarships, hosts educational events, and leads historical costuming trips for those who value education, fairness, and truth. We’re building a multicultural community of belonging where People of Color (POC) are welcomed, respected, and valued.
Our Vision
We envision safe, multicultural spaces in historical costuming and public history. We celebrate the global contributions of communities of color through education, storytelling, and fabulous historical fashion.
How We Work
We’re 100% volunteer-run. Every dollar donated supports our three initiatives: Education, Events, and Travel.
Our Founder
Gigi Coulson—retired sociologist, researcher, and public historian—is available to discuss sponsorships and collaborations.

Reflections on Community & Celebration
Our first annual historical costuming event, The Salon at Palais Royal, was a joyous success! With 140 attendees—including over 40 POC—it featured stunning fashion, lectures, sword fighting, music, and community. Attendees were supported, seen, and celebrated. This is the new normal for our events.
Looking Ahead
This fall in Seattle: Our 18th-century Georgian Salon will highlight the global world of the Georgian era. People of African, Asian, and Indigenous descent shaped history then—and will be celebrated now. We can’t wait to see what you wear! If you’re interested in learning more about Georgian fashion in advance of the event, tune into our YouTube channel in August for our presentation and slideshow.
